Tips for searching for sexuality information:

When I first started to surf the net a few years ago, I was looking for sexuality resources. Because of the subject matter, most of my early searches ended up with thousands of XXX adult web sites. I was having great difficulty locating the sexology, sexual health, and other types of sex information that were available. Through my experience of "web surfing" and frequently feeling like I had fallen off the "surf board", I would offer beginners these tips.

  • When looking for sexual information, search for the name of a person in the sexology field (ex. Alfred Kinsey, William Masters, Eli Coleman)
  • Instead of searching for sexual behaviors (ex. Anal sex, oral sex, intercourse, masturbation), search for sexual phrases such as: sexual health, sexual relationships, sex education, sexual orientation (lesbian, gay, bisexual), transgender, sexology, AIDS/HIV, sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Obtain several web addresses and then use the links section to locate other resources (the primary purpose for this web page).
  • Be aware that a lot of information does not surface during web site searches. The links lists of the found web sites are a great way to discover additional web sites that contain related material.
